Jay de Miranda

Founder / President

Jay de Miranda, at 92 years old, is an accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist. After retiring from his successful career as a major investor and manager of multi-family properties in Los Angeles, he wanted to broaden his outlook and do something positive. As an entrepreneur, he knew that private money could fund social good, and he established the De Miranda Foundation in 2002 to provide financial support for underprivileged children through US and international charities.

Jay has been a long-time supporter of various organizations, providing financial support to agencies that directly provide basic life needs such as food, clothes, and medical care to children who are less fortunate. The De Miranda Foundation funds about ten domestic and international charities every year, with global grants going to charities in Uganda, Nepal, and India.

Outside of his philanthropic endeavors, Jay is a fitness enthusiast and exercises six times a week. He has never been hospitalized and is in excellent health. He also has a great love for airplanes and flying. He was a glider pilot at age 16, served in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and trained as a fighter pilot with the US Air Force. He worked for 15 years at SAS Airlines and piloted his own Cessna 182 to destinations in North America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. He was also a major investor in income properties and operated a 125-person firm that managed his and other owners' apartment complexes. He was the president of the Greater Los Angeles Apartment Association.

Jay's outside interests include racing sailboats, running marathons, and traveling the world. He has called the Palos Verdes Peninsula home for over 50 years, and his four children and seven grandchildren all live in Southern California and Dallas, Texas.
